Why is Darjeeling called the ‘Champagne of Teas’?
- Darjeeling Tea is grown and produced by 87 registered estates in West Bengal in the foothills of the Himalayas.
- Darjeeling Tea has geographical indicator status meaning it cannot be grown or manufactured anywhere else in the world
- Darjeeling is renowned for its unique flavor described as an “unrivaled metallic brightness in the cup, fragrant aromas, and flavors that hint of apricots, peaches, muscat grapes and toasty nuts.”
- Darjeeling Tea is harvested in ‘flushes’ — 1st Flush when the early leaf buds appear in the Spring, 2nd or Summer Flush when the plants muscatel flavors peak, and Autumnal Flush harvested for less than 30 days at the end of October as the plants begin hibernating.
